Gen Muhoozi To Stand For Presidency in 2031

The Executive Secretary to the PLU National Chairman, Hon. David Kabanda, has officially declared all attendees at Thursday’s press conference as the “historicals” of the Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU).

Kabanda, who is also the Member of Parliament for Kasambya, further announced that the Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and PLU Chairman, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, personally authorized an exclusive meeting for the group.

In a stunning political revelation that overshadowed the day’s proceedings, Kabanda disclosed that the CDF had specifically dispatched him to deliver a landmark declaration: Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba will officially contest the presidency in the 2031 general elections. Kabanda stressed that this decision has been formally sanctioned by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.

Kabanda revealed that the attendance roster for MPs was generated directly by the CDF, effectively elevating those physically present to a foundational status within the PLU internal hierarchy.

Addressing the noticeable absence of some Members of Parliament, Kabanda was emphatic that no one was omitted from the gathering.

He clarified that all MPs had been duly invited, and those who failed to turn up deliberately ignored the CDF’s direct call to attend.

Kabanda defended the integrity of the invitation process, explaining that Gen. Kainerugaba had initially planned a surprise drop-in to personally engage the gathering—but was canceled due to an urgent official call.

To compensate for his absence, Kabanda stated, the CDF directed that a private sit-down be organized specifically for those who had honoured his invitation. In response, Kabanda ordered immediate and comprehensive registration of all attending MPs and supporters, ensuring strict access control for the upcoming meeting—a privilege he noted would not be extended to those who had snubbed the Chairman’s call.

Beyond internal PLU organisation, the address delivered a diplomatic response to the Rwandan government spokesperson following recent commentary on Gen. Muhoozi’s public statements. Kabanda insisted that Gen. Muhoozi acts solely as a nationalist military leader focused on Ugandan affairs, urging the spokesman to refrain from actions that could create bilateral friction.

Kabanda further credited Gen. Muhoozi with having personally intervened with President Paul Kagame to reopen the Uganda-Rwanda border, a breakthrough he claimed came after previous diplomatic efforts had stalled.
